Deepak Chahar

International Cricketer | Swing Specialist

About

Deepak Chahar, born on August 7, 1992, in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, has emerged as one of India’s most exciting swing bowlers in limited-overs cricket. He made an unforgettable debut in domestic cricket, taking an astonishing 8/10 in his very first Ranji match, bowling Hyderabad out for just 21—the lowest total in Ranji history. Chahar’s ability to move the ball both ways, especially with the new ball during the powerplay, has become his trademark. After a breakthrough in domestic cricket, he made his mark internationally, debuting in T20Is in 2018. It wasn’t long before he made history by becoming the first Indian male cricketer to take a hat-trick in T20Is against Bangladesh in 2019, finishing with a career-best 6/7, earning him the prestigious ICC T20I Performance of the Year award.

Chahar’s IPL journey has been equally impressive. He rose to prominence with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), where his ability to strike early with the ball made him a key asset in their bowling attack. His performances with CSK helped them achieve success in the IPL, with Chahar playing a crucial role in their powerplay dominance. In 2025, he made a big move to Mumbai Indians for ₹9.25 crore, where he aims to continue his IPL success. Not just a bowler, Chahar is also a handy lower-order batsman, with his 69 against Sri Lanka in an ODI chase* showcasing his ability to perform under pressure. Despite facing setbacks with injuries, Chahar remains a key player for Rajasthan in domestic cricket, with aspirations of a strong return to the Indian team in the future.
